Leading Personalized Learning-

SE Wisconsin

Leading organizational transformation can be isolating work, particularly for leaders. This leadership series is specifically designed for principals, teacher leaders, and district leaders to provide the support and community needed to initiate and sustain transformational, personalized learning work in their schools and districts.  The series is designed for learning, and the application of, transformational frameworks gathered from combining the latest research and transformational processes, with key sections of the book authored by Jim Rickabaugh, Tapping the Power of Personalized Learning: A Road Map for School Leaders. The series is grounded in the transfer of ideas into customizable action.  The cohort will provide leaders with the strategies and skills necessary to lead this work, including the S.I.M.P.L.E. process, paradigm shifting approaches, and split-screen leadership strategies. Leaders are encouraged to participate as part of a school or district team, yet individuals and will be grouped in collaborative teams.

Session 1:  March 16,  7:30--11:00am
At this session participants will be exposed to a framework to understand incremental and incidental change or reform as opposed to transformational change. Participants will discuss current struggles and strategies and what they might imply for the work ahead.

Participants will reflect, and plan action steps, on key ideas:

  • Moving from an instructional to a learning paradigm
  • Strategies for system redesign and examining assumptions, metaphors, and mental models
  • Shifting Paradigms: Split-screen leadership; how participants can manage and balance sometimes competing priorities

Session 2:  April 16, 7:30--11:00am
In this session, teams will be introduced to a framework for remaining focused on transformation to personalized learning and the importance of understanding the development and iterative nature of the work. Shifts in roles for learners, educators, and administrators will be explored along with implications.

Participants will reflect, and plan action steps, on key ideas:

  • The learning independence continuum
  • Leadership practices, including six-steps to transformation practice
  • Determine strategic organizational shifts and determine action steps

Session 3:   May 10,  7:30--11:00am
The final session will explore ways to sustain leadership while supporting others in the organization as the change process continues. Particular attention will be given to what occurs as an organization moves beyond start-up to stabilization and approaches scale and how to lead an organization there.

Participants will reflect, and plan action steps, on key ideas:

  • Shifts in thinking and practice
  • Reframe Professional Development to match paradigm shift
  • Maintaining fidelity in a student-centered approach
  • Leading as creating conditions and culture
