Introduction to Sandtray Play Therapy in NY 

Description:

An overview of the history and development of therapeutic use of sand and miniatures, differentiation of the original Sandplay therapy from Sandtray Play therapy, an exploration of the tools and practice technique of Sandplay/Sandtray therapy, and presentation of Sandplay case examples. Understanding symbolic imagery, why Sandplay/Sandtray therapy is effective with trauma.

Objectives:

  • Discuss the origin of sandtray play therapy and related modalities
  • State the difference between sandtray and sandplay therapy
  • Define sandtray play therapy
  • Identify the therapeutic value of sandtray in play therapy
  • Demonstrate the process for creating and holding sandtrays with children and adolescents
  • Analyze the difference between the use of sandtray between children and adults

 

Presenter:  Betty Jackson LSW, CST-T

Betty Jackson is an LSW (licensed social worker) in PA, an LGSW in MD, a CST-T (Certified Sandplay Therapist - Teacher through Sandplay Therapists of America), and a national and international presenter with over 35 years of experience in school, mental health agency, and private practice settings. Ms. Jackson works as a child & family therapist for Upper Bay Counseling & Support Services in Maryland and maintains a private practice in Christiana, PA.
