Interactive Storytelling (taking a storybook, turning it into a storytelling, and then adding opportunities for students to participate physically and verbally) is a strategy that has been successfully used by the CUNY-CAT Early Learning Program in diverse early childhood classrooms to build emergent literacy skills, engagement and whole group collaboration.

This workshop is an opportunity to explore how interactive storytelling practices supports the English Language Learner in developing fluency and vocabulary acquisition. Particular attention will be paid to the use of intentional gesture and vocal variation and building original stories from storybook vocabulary.

Led by Helen Wheelock, Director of the Early Learning Program.
