Confirmation is a time for 8th graders to explore the Christian faith and begin to make decisions about how they will live out that faith. Considered a milestone in life, McFarlin takes Confirmation seriously, as we challenge our students to grow closer to God through Jesus Christ, recogniziing they are created in God's image, understanding the power of the Holy Spirit at work in their lives, and realizing they are on this earth of a purpose and a reason.
Confirmation begins on Sunday, January 7, 2018 with a gathering of parents and students. Confirmation Sunday will be Sunday, May 13, 2018.
An important part of Confirmation will be the Confirmation Retreat, which will take place April 27 - 28, 2018 at Bridgeport Camp in North Texas (just west of Denton).
To help cover the costs associated with Confirmation, we ask for a donation of $75. This includes the cost of the retreat. Scholarship money is available. You can make your payment to Scott Meier in cash or check, or by credit card by calling Eann Robinson in the church office (405-321-3484)
In addition, because we think that missions are so important to living out the life of a Follower of Christ, any Confirmand who wants to be part of the Spring Break Mission can go at a cost of $300 (regular cost is $400). Any deduction from students who helped unload pumpkins or who attend the Winter Retreat can be applied to the $300 (making the trip $250 or less).
In addition to our Sunday evening Confirmation times, 8th graders will also gather for their own group during Awakening (Sunday School) on Sunday mornings at 9:40am. This is an important part of the Confirmation process, and will cover topics important to Confirmation. Awakening meets each Sunday morning, 9:40am to 10:40am in Room 321-324.
Finally, weekly worship attendance is really important to get the entire "Confirmation experience." We encourage families to do this together!
