Suicide Prevention Training
This workshop prepares teams of pupil services staff, health educators, and administrators to plan, prevent, and intervene at their schools; it is not intended to train all school staff.
This workshop helps participants understand the scope of youth suicide and what schools can do to reduce suicidal acts and thoughts among students.
Participants will learn about the prevalence of youth suicide, risk and protective factors, comprehensive prevention programs, and crisis intervention.
We will discuss legal requirements, and help you gain new knowledge and skills to improve classroom instruction at the middle- and high-school levels. Action planning is integrated into all phases of the training program.
DPI Facilitators will:
- Share evidence-based strategies
- Provide resources to improve local efforts (including a free grade-level appropriate movie)
- Share and explore DPI’s Suicide Prevention Curriculum
- Introduce and describe gatekeeper training: ACT (Acknowledge, Care, Tell)
- Share and discuss best practices
- Assist in the development of an action plan to be completed after the training
