Landscape Essentials - Tarboro 2017

This workshop for green industry professionals (landscapers/landscape contractors, nursery growers, irrigation contractors, pesticide applicators, etc.) focuses on essential tools needed for the trade.

Participants will receive practical information and earn up to eight (8) NC CEUs: Arborist (1), Landscape Contractor (2), Landscape Contractor Business (2), Irrigation Contractor (1), and Irrigation Contractor Business (2).

8:00 - 8:50 a.m. - Plants are More Than Pretty- How We Can Re-Think Our Landscapes to Provide For Multi-Functions. In this presentation Dr. Fair will cover the benefits plants provide to human societies. In addition, she will cover what Low Impact Development is all about and how to leverage your plant designs and installations to get the most out of the plants

9:00 - 9:50 a.m. - Water Efficiency and Uniformity In the Landscape. Water is a key component in the landscape. Using too much or too little water can cost green industry businesses precious time and money. Participants will learn about water efficiency and uniformity, then complete a hands-on exercise to help them better calculate water use in the landscape – all of which can help landscape and irrigation contractors offer additional services and benefits to their customers.

10:00 – 11:45 a.m. - Social Media Essentials for Landscape & Irrigation Businesses Many Landscape and Irrigation Contractors do not have a social media business strategy, or even know where to start. In this course, Kim Strazisar will define four top social media sites (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Twitter), review multiple examples of quality industry posts for business, and teach some basic social media essentials for business postings. Then she will lead an exercise to help participants determine their social media goals and a basic strategy to help them achieve those goals. Finally, she will hand out and review her top 12 Best Social Media Practices to help guide participants once they’ve returned to their offices and post on social media.
