High Five!
High Five! is a unique, empowering and comprehensive child abuse prevention program designed especially for Pre-K students up through the second grade.
Safe Touches
Safe Touches is a research-based child sexual abuse prevention workshop that uses puppet to talk about sensitive body safety concepts, and helps children learn and practice key safety skills.
The New York State Children’s Alliance, Inc. is pleased to announce free training opportunities in three different Child Abuse Prevention curricula. These trainings are for community and school-based professionals who are currently working in or plan to partner with school(s) within New York State. Successful candidates must demonstrate the ability to deliver one of the curricula within a school setting. This project is supported by a federal grant awarded by the New York State Juvenile Justice Advisory Group and administered by the state Division of Criminal Justice Services.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Addressing child abuse is a community responsibility that requires education to equip both children and adults with the necessary information and strategies designed to recognize signs of child abuse and respond appropriately, and to prevent child abuse from occurring in the first place. The goal of this project is to increase access to child abuse prevention educational materials for community and school educators designed to train professionals who can educate and empower students to tell a trusted adult if they are being abused.
Several child abuse prevention curricula are available in the field, and three will be offered as part of this project in order to begin to build capacity in New York State. These curricula are:
Child Safety Matters; High Five; Safe Touches
Individuals or teams of up to three will be eligible to apply to attend one or more of the trainings. Decisions regarding acceptance into the project will be based on candidates' agreement to attend and actively participate in the training, implement the curriculum, provide quarterly data related to implementation, and letters of support from one or more schools that have agreed to implement the curriculum. Letters should describe the commitment to support implementation of the curriculum within the school, and how and when the curriculum will be implemented. Please forward letters of support to Clare Robinson-Henrie at: clare.robinson-henrie@nyschildrensalliance.org . Applications are due by February 1st, 2018.
