Smart Supports are Positive Supports!

A Positive Behavior Support training with Wise's Shaun Wood, BCBA

Supported Employment and Community Inclusion professionals who teach independence and create supports empower people to have the best results. When we teach to independence, participants are happier, receive more hours, and form deeper relationships with people who are not paid staff. Professionals begin to develop proficient coaching skills, and overall more people get to participate in services because our capacity increases. Being an employment consultant or community inclusion specialist is a tough but rewarding job, and there are so many people who either want that first job or want to spend more time doing what they love in the community. What tools do you have in your toolbox to make that happen? This is an all day, hands-on positive behavior support workshop designed to not only up your skills in designing jobs for maximum independence, but to help you learn problem solving skills in figuring out what tool is appropriate to use in the first place.
Topics will include:
  • Functional Assessment
  • Social narratives
  • Visual supports
  • Choice making
  • Social skill training
  • Video Modeling
  • Prompting
  • Low tech supports
  • High tech “smart” contextual supports
  • And more!

Additional Information:

Participants will be required to come to the workshop with a written commitment from their managers for 2-5 hours of post workshop homework to receive their certificate of participation. Participating in this workshop gives you access to a learning library of community based supports which you can use for future inspiration. This workshop is designed to be fun, hands-on, and participants will work collaboratively to discover, explore, and share supports. We are looking forward to seeing you there!

  • The registration cost is $25 and includes a boxed lunch.
  • Parking is available on campus for $3.00 per day.
