12:00-2:00pm
Arboretum at Grand Traverse Commons
1200 W. Eleventh St., Traverse City, MI 49684
Thousands of trees are planted each year and many get no further care until they suffer storm damage or other structural failure. Join ASM certified arborists for an instructional demonstration on mature tree-pruning designed for tree preservation, restoration and longevity at the famous Arboretum at the Village at Grand Traverse Commons in Traverse City, MI.
Bo Burke, Certified Arborist, will lead attendees as they learn from Michigan's best climbing arborists and watch them perform technical pruning on mature trees as they prep the trees for the 2018 Michigan Tree Climbing Championship (MTCC).
Instructor: Bo Burke, Certified Arborist
Objectives: Pruning terminology and techniques will be discussed as well as tools and tree physiology/CODIT. Discussion will include a list of DON'Ts - spiking, topping, lion tailing etc, and end with a walk around the Arboretum where Certifed Arborists and MTCC climbers/judges will answer your questions on pruning for preservation, work positioning and climbing techniques for mature trees.
THANK YOU, Certified Arborists, for volunteering your time to prune historic trees for the class and the MTCC!
FEES:
Registration includes 'Cue Cards' on tree pruning and warm beverages.
