  • Describe how to determine, at the individual case level, what’s working and what’s not clinically in your play therapy sessions (and what to do about it).
  • Summarize ethical practices in play therapy.

Policies:

Cancellations:

Participant: Written cancellation must be received in our office at least ten business days prior to the training.  If we receive notification within 10 business days, you will receive either a refund or voucher, minus a $15.00 processing fee.  If we do not receive notification within the 10 business days, you will not receive a refund or voucher.

 Chesapeake Beach Professional Seminarsreserves the right to cancel a training due to inclement weather or low attendance.  In this event, CBPS will provide you with a full refund.  In the event of inclement weather please check your email for CBPS notifications/instructions and/or voicemail phone system.

Change of Instructors:     CBPS also reserves the right to change instructors if needed to ensure an effective training.  In the event that this takes place you will be notified with the change as soon as possible.

CE Certificates:     Certificates are emailed through a service called We Transfer 14 days after training is complete provided the participant paid in full, registered with accurate information, documented attendance as instructed (ie, signing in and out of in-person trainings, logging in on webinars, etc.), and completed the workshop evaluation.

This Workshop is Designed For

Social workers (LCSW, LMSW, LISW, BSW, AAW), psychologists (Ph.D., Psy.D., Ed.D.) school counselors, school psychologist, professional counselors (LMHC, LCMHC, CMHC, LPC, LCPC), marriage and family therapists (LMFT, LIMFT) art therapists, play therapists, occupational therapists, graduate students, and others in the mental health-related field. 

*This is an advanced level seminar which means that individuals who attend should have a strong background in the topic being presented or should have previously attended any pre-requisite seminars and have received a strong foundation of understanding in the field of play therapy, therapy with children, etc.

Course Description:

Am I as prepared as I think I am as a registered play therapist? Attend this enlightening and empowering training experience to find out. Participants will have an opportunity to challenge their play therapy knowledge and skills by engaging in self-assessment. Participants will respond to clinical scenarios and apply interventions to case studies. This will be followed by a rich discussion of concepts and authentic learning opportunities that will enhance play therapy skills for professional and clinical challenges. Why attend this session? You will have opportunities to have your most burning questions answered about the practice of play therapy, solve dilemmas, learn new concepts and obtain validation of your clinical skills and conceptualizations. There is no pass/fail grade. The purpose is self-assessment and enrichment.

Topic areas to be included but not limited to: History and theory of play therapy, child-centered principles, directive play, psychodynamic principles (transference, countertransference), use of metaphors, Gestalt play therapy, grief and loss issues, use of art, ethical dilemmas, trauma focused evidenced-based practices, sexual abuse, parenting strategies, documentation, court testimony and more!

Certified Professor and Supervisor of Child Psychotherapy and Play Therapy.  Director of Integrative Counseling Services, PLLC, in central New York, where she conducts psychotherapy and supervises staff. Associate Professor at State University of NY at Oswego, where she teaches and develops comprehensive syllabi and coordinates the play therapy certificate and mental health counseling programs.  Author with J. M. Rickli of various play therapy texts, including “How Play Therapists can Engage Parents & Professionals” (Rev. ed.), 2011.

ASWB Approval Period from 5/14/2018 to 5/14/2019.  CBPS maintains responsibility for the program. Social workers should contact their regulatory board to determine course approval. Social workers will receive 6 continuing education clock hours in participating in this course.
