Elements of Traditional Architecture: Usage of Moldings in Practice
Course Description:
Moldings serve a number of purposes, some utilitarian, and some aesthetic, but all of which effect our experience and well being. The design, profiles, configuration, and proportioning of moldings in architecture also help define style which effects the perception and aesthetics of space.
Presenter: David Ellison is a a registered architect in Ohio and New York. He studied at the Cooper Union, The ICAA and with the Attingham Trust.
Learning Objectives:

The first hour of the course will introduce the primary shapes of moldings and the science of their design and usage to create visual and stylistic effects.

The second hour of the course will review the unique aesthetic and functional characteristics of moldings used during various historical periods and for specific design applications.

Practical considerations for the intelligent usage of common moldings and combinations of moldings in everyday and specialized design will be discussed.
