New to Autism

This presentation is designed for parents whose children have recently been diagnosed with autism. It covers the basic characteristics of Autism Spectrum Disorders, how families integrate their feelings about having a child with a disability, and how to get started on a path to helping your family support your child.  There will be time set aside for audience questions to be addressed.  

Autism Spectrum Disorders are currently being diagnosed in approximately 1 of every 68 children according to a 2016 study by the Center of Disease Control (CDC).  It has become the fastest growing developmental disability in the United States so knowing what programs, services and support are available for families is the first step on this journey. 

Note: This presentation is free and open to the community. No childcare is available.

About the Presenter:

  These groups are facilitated by Julie Quigley, MA in Teaching.
  Julie taught kids labeled as having an emotional and/or
  behavioral disability and later served as a cross-categorical
  teacher for 15 years.

 She has three children on the spectrum and currently serves on
 the State Superintendent's Parent Advisory Council and the
 board for the Germantown Community Special Education
Fund. She has served as a co-chair for the Parent Representative on the State Superintendent’s Council on Special Education. 

Julie is employed at the Autism Society of Southeastern Wisconsin as the
Director of Education & Outreach.
