Developing Critical Thinking/Comprehension Skills Across the Disciplines Grades 6-8
A Recent Institute on Education Sciences research summary practice guide has clarified five essential recommendations for improving adolescent literacy, especially critical in light of the challenging "21st Century Literacy Standards." Dr. Kevin Feldman will guide an exploration of "research to practice" applications of these evidence based "tools" via modeling, discussion, video demonstration, and classroom simulations. A particular emphasis will be on devloping critical thinking/comprehension skills across ALL content areas grades 6-8, including the urgent need to teach middle school students critical media literacy, how to reason effectively while using tools such as Google search and various social media platforms.
