This will be an interactive session that will provide the foundational knowledge on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and its impact on children, along with an activity to build an understanding of how resilience can help mitigate the negative effects of ACEs.

Presenter: Robert Allan Shapiro, MD is the Director of the Mayerson Center for Safe and Healthy Children at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.  He directs the hospital child abuse team and specializes in Child Abuse Pediatrics.  Dr. Shapiro’s interests include diagnosing and treating victims of child abuse and neglect, implementing child abuse prevention strategies within primary care medical practices and facilitating a public health response to childhood adversity (ACEs) and building child/family resilience.

Continuing Education                                                                                                                                            Counselors, Social Workers, and Marriage and Family Therapists: The Child Focus, Inc. Training Center is approved through the Ohio Counselor and Social Worker Board. This program is offered for 2.75 clock hours  of continuing education for counselors, social workers, and marriage and family therapists. Training Center is approved by the Ohio Psychological Association MCE program to offer continuing education for Ohio psychologists.
