Frog Prints e! SPRING STEM Sail & Underwater Robotic After School Camp on Saturdays April 21-June 09, 2018 


In partnership with The Center for Wooden Boats and Virginia V, the Spring 2018 Saturday STEM/Sail & Robot Camp is a fantastic opportunity for girls, age 10-14. The STEM/Sail Robot Camp is eight Saturdays of scientific investigations, robot building, sailing, exploration of the Virginia V (last working ferry of the mosquito fleet) and fun!

What is a STEM Sail & Robotics Camp?

STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Our  Program is split into two sections: Underwater robotics and sailing.  The sailing portion will be for half days May and combined with Robotics in the morning.

Who can attend? 

Middle school girls,  5th through 8th grade; ages 9-14.  Classes limited to 12 campers.

When is it happening?

Saturdays, April 21 - June 09, 2018
Camp Hours are 9 AM - 4 PM 
(8:30-9:00 is drop off and 4:00-4:30 PM are supervised pick-up times)

What will we be doing?

Hands on learning in designing, building, and testing an Underwater Robot!
Exploring the Virginia V & steam engine design, Designing, building, testing and launching in Lake Union their underater Robots, scientific experiments involving capacity, load, depth, wind & current. Lunch is not provided.  
Learn how to Sail and the physics behind sailing

Learning how to sail in El Toro Wooden boats for half days on Saturdays as well as navigation, tacking, and understanding how to read a chart.  Students need to be prepared to go out rain or sun; bring an extra set of dry clothing and lunch with them.  

**Sailing lessons are planned and timed to when the weather is the warmest and days longest for both Spring and Fall programs.  Students in the Spring 2018 program will start on April 21st, by  building robots; and then transition  to half-day sailing in the afternoons on May 19th and robotics in the am.

How much?

  • Suggested Payment: $590 for both sections and $350 for just the Underwater Robotics section.
  • Financial aid is available; see below

  • Referrals: we will refund $50 for each referral who signs up ( $100 max)
  • Waiver: A signed liability and photo permission waiver must be completed by first day of class.  You can download the waiver form here.

In partnership with CWB we offer a ‘Pay What You Can’ scholarship; submission forms are available at: http://cwb.org/classes/scholarships/ 

If you would like to apply for financial aid, please check the financial aid box on the registration form and select "pay by check."  This will hold your spot while you are applying for a scholarahip.

Cancellation Policy

For all course registrations, the following cancellation policy applies. 

• Cancellation/change outside of 60 days = full refund less $15 admin fee.
• Cancellation/change within 60 – 30 days prior to start date = a $15 admin fee and tuition credit for the remaining amount towards a course within the same calendar year. There is no refund.
• Cancellation/change within 30-15 days of start date = 50% tuition credit of course fee available towards a course within the same calendar year.
• No refund or credit available after within 15 days of start date of class.
