Take action to fight West Virginia's soaring rates of chronic disease.  

Take part in a day of evidence-based strategies for identifying, preventing, and reversing obesity, diabetes and metabolic roots of disease. Gain inspiration and learn new clinical approaches to promote health and wellness across the lifespan. You will have the ability to hear from and discuss with fellow West Virginian physicians, nurses, medical students, dieticians and other health professionals on initiatives that are improving the health of the state.

Try This for Healthcare Professionals is a collaboration between the WVU School of Medicine Eastern Division, Try This West Virginia, The Future of Nursing WV, the WV Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and other WV providers, institutions, and community leaders.

Continuing Education Credit

Physicians, nurses, and dieticians can receive 6 hours of continuing education credit for their attendance and participation in the June 14 conference.  

Building on Last Year

Kicking off with an introduction to Try This West Virginia, the 2nd annual Try This for Health Care Professionals will build on last years conference to continue to offer practical strategies for engaging patients and communities to provide better care and striving to alleviate the burden of chronic disease.

Healthcare innovators from across West Virginia will share their work, giving you new ideas and inspiration. In the afternoon, we will enter into "breakout" sessions where you will be able to work with interdisciplinary groups and learn from fellow health proffesionals engaged in implementing these evidence-based strategies to prevent and reverse chronic diesease in West Virginia!

After attending Try This HP in 2017, in my practice I will strive to...

Thursday's Agenda inlcludes:

  • Presentations from physicians, nurses, dieticians, medical students and more about practical ways you can prevent and reverse chronic disease in your practice.
  • Evidence based strategies taking place across the state.
  • "Breakout sessions" where you will get the chance to learn and discuss methods you can utilize beyond treatment to help block chronic disease with the health professional who has implemented that particular method.

Get involved! Plan to stay for all three days! It will inspire and re-energize you and your practice!

At the Friday and Saturday conference you can expect:

  • Forty workshops!  From farmers markets and school gardens to bicycling and running programs to school-based health centers and parks, we’ve got great workshop leaders who really know their stuff! (2018 list coming in March.)
  • Affordable cost!  WV Wesleyan is giving us a very reasonable price, and workshop leaders are donating time, so we can keep conference costs down.
  • Minigrant program!  If you come to the conference, you can get grants to help make your healthier-community idea happen!  If three or more people from your community attend and plan as a team, you can apply. 
  • Team building! Come with others from your community iso you can brainstorm and plan in a stimulating, idea-filled atmosphere.
  • Youth activities!  Young people from 14 - 18 are encouraged to attend and participate in our youth track. Younger children must be accompanied at all times by parents.
