BABYSITTER TRAINING 
(for students age 12 and up)

Learn how to care for babies and children safely and responsibly. Includes: accident prevention, fire safety, emergencies, kids at different ages, and employer/employee responsibilities. Successful participants receive a certificate. Students must be 12 years of age within two months of the workshop. Please bring a nut free lunch and drink.

READY, SET, SOLO! 
(for students age 11 and up, along with a parent) 

Together you and your child create a plan for your child to stay home alone safely and confidently. You and your child will discuss concerns as they relate to your family. Includes: home safety, family rules, emergencies, and strangers. Please note: In Manitoba, children must not be left home alone until they reach age 12.

BASIC STUDY SKILLS FOR STUDENTS

Students learn to be more organized and better prepared for tests and school work. Students identify their preferred learning style (visual, auditory, tactile) and learn about strategies for each style. This program is not for students who require extra support in a learning environment.

FIRST AID AND CPR FOR BABYSITTERS
(presented by DTermined Training) 

Learn to save a life from a certified First Aid and CPR instructor! First Aid is the first step in addressing the needs of someone in a medical emergency. Learn techniques to determine the course of treatment until advanced medical help arrives. Students also learn CPR, an emergency procedure that is used to restore blood flow to someone in cardiac arrest. Are you ready to take action if someone needed help? Students must be 12 years old within 2 months of the workshop date.

TRIPLE P - POSITIVE PARENTING PROGRAM
(for parents of children ages 0 to 12) 

Learn practical strategies to help confidently manage your child's behaviour, prevent problems, and build strong, healthy relationships. Triple P is a research-based parenting program with evidence to show it works. No childminding available.

Dates: Mondays, January 29, February 5, February 12 (3 weeks)

ANXIETY IN CHILDREN
(for parents) 

Do you have a child who is anxious? Looking for ways to help? This three evening workshop will explore what anxiety is, the different types of anxiety and their signs and symptoms, and strategies to support and help a child who is struggling with anxiety. No childminding available.

Dates: Mondays, February 26, March 5 and March 12 (3 weeks)

BULLYING WORKSHOP
(for parents)

In this workshop, you will gain insight into bullying behaviour: What it is and how it is defined. Explore topics such as: power imbalances, how bullying has changed as a result of technology, and strategies to deal with bullying. Learn communication tips to help you maneuver these difficult situations with compassion. No childminding available.

SEXUAL HEALTH EDUCATION SERIES
(for parents)

Raising Sexually Healthy Children (recommended for parents of children 10 and under): Learn strategies to talk about sexuality with your children and ways to respond to sex-related questions and behaviours with an open, sex-positive approach. No childminding available.

Date: Wednesday, March 7
Time: 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Fee: $15 per workshop, or take both workshops for $25

Sex and Gender Diversity Workshop (for parents of children of all ages): Increase your understanding about the spectrums of gender diversity and sexual orientation. Learn more about what it is like to be LGBTTQ today. Gain knowledge on how we can create a community free from discrimination. No childminding available.

CIRCLE OF SECURITY - KEEPING YOUR KIDS CLOSE!
(for parents of children ages 0 to 6) 

This relationship-based parenting program provides ideas to encourage a stronger connection between paren and child.  Learn new ways to under and respond to your child's need and behaviours that help to increase the emotional security of your chidren. Children who feel more secure tend to have: increased empathy, healthy self-esteem, positive relationships, and a greater ability to manage their emotions effectively. Childminding available.

NOBODY'S PERFECT - A PROGRAM FOR DADS!
For dads of kids ages 0 to 6, including any male person involved in raising children

Meet with other fathers of young children, share questions, concerns and ideas about being a dad, learn about child development, safety, health and behaviour. Discuss real-life parenting and discover positive parenting techniques. Childminding available.

Registration begins Monday January 15

PARENT EDUCATOR 1 on 1 APPOINTMENTS
(for parents and caregivers) 

This individualized one on one service will provide you, in your role as parent, with an opportunity to focus on challenges you are experiences with your child.

Fee: $45 per hour, pre-payment is necessary

Registration for Children and Youth Programs: Please register only your own child. 

REFUND POLICY: If you withdraw from a program more than seven days prior to the start date, you may receive a refund of your course fee, less a $5.00 administration fee. After this time, or once the program has started no refunds will be made. Full refunds will be issued if we cancel a course.  

PLEASE NOTE: All courses must be pre-paid. Payment must be received within 7 days of registration in order to guarantee your spot in the class. If payment has not been received, SWFIC reserves the right to cancel your registration.
