 Course Leader - Penny Fillhouer

An Oregonian by birth, Penny’s career spans more than 30 years in business operations and HR on a national level.  Then, finding herself working close to 60 hours per week, Penny started her Because Fit Matters employment consulting business here in Vancouver.  Penny believes strongly that entrepreneurs need to think differently about hiring beforehand and know the options to consider when  growing an effective work team.  Penny has been a Vancouver SCORE Busines Mentor since 2013.

Is your business getting to the point where you are thinking about hiring your first employee?  Maybe you already have employees and are feeling overwhelmed with how to focus on building your dream? Are you able to manage staff so your company can continue to grow?  Well, SCORE offers an objective resource for those tough questions.

This seminar is not a hiring seminar; it answers the question “If I can only grow by adding people, how do I do that in a way that makes me money, saves me time and lets me have a life outside of work?”

Takeaways from this SCORE seminar

  • This “how to” workshop will address the hiring dilemma.  It's a straight forward, interactive workshop - you can ask any question on any topic and we will do our best to give you plenty to think about.
  • Learn about the do's and don't's of hiring and firing and get tips on screening and interviewing.
  • You’ll learn about the three categories of employment laws: Time & Pay, Discrimination and Safety.
  • Get help with questions like “Do I really need an HR presence in my company”?  “Why would I hire an HR person to hire my staff?” or (the one we love the most) “Who can I talk to that is totally looking out for my best interest?”

This workshop is being offered to the Vancouver Business Community through a grant from national SCORE partner, ComplyRight.  The non-refundable reservation fee for this 3 hour program is only $5.  Seating is limited so please register early.  A copy of all presentation slides and other course materials will be emailed to registrants shortly prior to the seminar.  As always, seminar registrants will be encouraged to take advantage of SCORE's free business mentoring services at any time following the workshop.
