2-Day Workshop: Cooking & Eating for Good Health + Farmer's Market Shopping Trip with Mary Hammerstein
This Workshop meets on Friday, January 26 from 6:30 - 8:30pm and Saturday, January 27th from 9:30am - 12:30pm
Are you looking for strategies to eat well while reducing the stress and anxiety that often accompanies meal preparation? Kripalu yoga teacher and cooking program assistant, Mary Hammerstein will introduce strategies for mindful eating and basic cooking techniques while offering seasonal recipes for winter comfort foods. Friday evening we’ll make a variety of side dishes and a salad as we discuss the basics of eating well and basic cooking skills. Friday Menu: Caramelized Brussels Sprouts with Kim Chee, Honey Balsamic Carrots, Creamed Leeks, Warm Beets with Citrus Vinaigrette and Greek Kale Salad. Saturday will be a morning of shopping at the Aquidneck Growers Market and coming back to the Newport Cooks Kitchen to prepare a simple, healthful, seasonal meal together. Saturday Menu: Mushroom Risotto with Black Truffle Oil, Lemony Red Lentil Dahl, Citrus Broccoli Slaw and Kripalu Vegan Brownies. Instructor, Mary Hammerstein received her yoga teacher training certification in 2009 and lived at the Kripalu Center in 2013 and began working as a faculty assistant to the Executive Chef, which she still does today. Programs she has assisted with include The Nutrition and Cooking Immersion, The Secrets of the Kripalu Kitchen and One Pot Meals and Five Ingredients, No Time and is eager to share what she has learned. She is inspired by the simplicity of food and demystifying healthy eating in order to support people along the path of a healthy lifestyle.
