Addressing the social drivers of healthy aging: Policy options to improve health and impact spending growth

The Scripps Gerontology Center at Miami University projects that by 2020, 25 percent of the population in more than half of Ohio counties will be over the age of 60. As Ohio’s population continues to age, policymakers are faced with unique challenges.

This forum, a follow-up to a popular 2016 HPIO forum, will explore the aging policy landscape, supports for healthy aging, public and private payment models and social determinants of health for aging populations.

Speakers Include:
  • Robert Applebaum, Scripps Gerontology Center, Miami University
  • Glennon Sweeney, Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity
  • Zach Kenitzer, Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity
  • Angelica Herrera-Venson, National Council on Aging
  • Anne Montgomery, Altarum
  • Jean Accius, AARP Public Policy Institute
  • Josephine Kalipeni, Caring Across Generations
  • Barbara Sears, Ohio Department of Medicaid
  • Beverley Laubert, Ohio Department of Aging
Featuring a panel discussion on Ohio's age-friendly communities in:
  • Mary McNamara, Cleveland Department of Aging (Cleveland)
  • Katie White, The Ohio State University College of Social Work (Columbus)
  • Ann Whelpton (Oxford)
Lunch will be served (vegetarian options available)
