Topic: Applied LID in Northern Colorado
Odell Brewing Company - several LID elements
Managing stormwater in the built environment by minimizing effective imperviousness close to the source can be challenging, and can also provide amenities that enhance the appeal of the urban landscape. LID (Low Impact Development) management of stormwater is a philosophy of mimicking natural systems, building in features that promote infiltration, such as rain gardens, permeable pavements, and bioretention facilities. The application of LID in Colorado has evolved, and best practices have emerged. New ideas will continue to be developed.
Presenter: Nick Haws
Nick Haws, P.E., LEED AP, is recognized for his work in Low Impact Design (LID) stormwater solutions. His designs for infill and redevelopment areas artfully blend into the streetscapes of northern Colorado, including the well-known O’Dell Brewing Company. He leads work in multi-family development, student housing, and a diverse range of projects as the President and CEO of Northern Engineering. He joined the firm in 1999 after graduating from Colorado State University in Civil Engineering. His volunteer work includes service on the boards of the Poudre River Trust, Fort Collins Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Cache la Poudre River national Heritage Alliance, and he was recognized in the Northern Colorado Business Report’s “40 Under Forty Leaders Honor Roll.”
