Volunteer Registration

We need volunteers for 2018 Central NM Science Olympiad and the 2018 Central NM Science & Engineering Research Challenge. Read on to find out which volunteer oppotunity is right for you!

Central New Mexico Science Olympiad

Februray 3, 2018 at UNM

Opportunity 1: Event Supervisor

When: Saturday, February 3, 2018 ~  7:00a - 2:30p (Breakfast & lunch provided) 

What: Using rules and guidelines provided by the National Science Olympiad, design and execute a compeition event for middle or high school students in various STEM-related subjects. Events can range from written exams to hands-on lab tests and engineering-based construction testing.

Opportunity 2: Event Assistant

When: Saturday, February 3, 2018 ~ 7:00a - 2:30p (Breakfast & lunch provided) 

What: Assist event supervisor in the set up and execution of their event (see above). Help with timing, scoring, and clean-up, etc.

Central New Mexico Science & Engineering Research Challenge

March 22-24, 2018 at EXPO NM

Opportunity 1: Special Award Judges

When: Friday, March 23, 2018 ~  7:30a - 3:30p (Breakfast & lunch provided) 

What: Interview  middle  or  high  school  students  about their science/engineering  projects to select winners for various special awards based on individual award criteria. Training material provided prior to event.

Opportunity 2: 4th & 5th Grade Science Expo Judge

When: Friday, March 23, 2018 ~ 12:00p - 4:00p (Lunch provided) 

What: Interview elementary students about their science or engineering projects and caucus with other judges to determine 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in each category. Strong emphasis on providing positive interactions and feedback to the students. 

Opportunity 3: Display/Safety Inspectors

When: Thursday, March 22, 2018 ~ 2:30p - 7:30p (Light dinner provided) 

What: Inspect student sciene and engineering project displays to ensure compliane with display and safety protocols. Training material provided prior to event.

Opportunity 4: General/Registration Volunteers

When: Thursday, March 22, 2018 ~ 2:30p - 7:30p (Light dinner provided) 

What: Help with various tasks on set up night. Register/check-in students as they arrive to set up their projects. Assist students in finding their project location, taking pictures, handing out t-shirts. Other tasks as needed.
