Help us honor

 Jodi Miller

recipient of the

Samuel A. Wolfson Community Leadership Award

Congregation Or Ami honors Jodi Miller with our third annual Samuel A. Wolfson Community Leadership Award at our Or Ami One "An Evening of Celebration" on March 17, 2018. Jodi embodies chesed (kindness), rachamim (compassion) and tikkun olam (repairing the world) and brings those virtues to everything she does.

Jodi serves on the founding executive committee of Congregation Or Ami’s Communications and Program Committee (CPC), where she has been instrumental in creating fun, engaging and meaningful events that bring our community together, including Jewish cooking classes, movie premieres and wine tastings. She’s worked with others to produce Pancake Breakfasts, Shabbat dinners, beach Shabbat services and our annual Or Ami Picnic. These events are attended by guests of all ages and serve as regular opportunities to have fun and bring people together.

Rabbi Paul Kipnes says, “Jodi’s events give people a reason to stay involved long after their children finish religious school, a way to meet other congregants, and opportunities to learn and grow. They epitomize the inspiring energy and overflowing sense of inclusion that makes Or Ami a vibrant, growing congregation. We are grateful to Jodi and her positive impact on our community.”

Her husband, Joe, says, “Those who know Jodi know that she is incredibly generous with her time, energy and most importantly, her emotional support. She gets immense joy out of making connections between people, meeting new friends, and connecting them with love, help, a new job or whatever else they need. At Congregation Or Ami, she has made significant contributions over the years, most recently on the CPC and I am so pleased that she is being recognized by the community. I am proud to have her as my wife.”

Jodi, along with her husband Joe, embraces the value of mitzvah goreret mitzvah (one good deed leads to another), and passes this inheritance l’dor vador (from generation to generation) to their children. They inspired their four children to get involved in charitable organizations, feed the homeless, collect items for an orphanage in Nairobi, and volunteer with special needs children through the Friendship Circle. For years, Jodi and Joe sponsored many high school students with SAT prep and college applications.  She enthusiastically engages in gemilut chasadim (acts of lovingkindness) through many social action activities from Holiday ChildSpree for at-risk youth to Mitzvah Day for foster children. Wherever Jodi sees a need, she rushes in to address it.

A founding supporter of the Caring Community Foundation, Jodi ensures that her family will leave the world a better place. As Jodi says, “I love Congregation Or Ami and take great pride in helping create the warmth and welcome of our second home. This fabulous community provides us the opportunity to participate and give back."
