The Mindful Orchestra is a new string ensemble project directed by David Sawtelle, professional musician, music teacher, and former symphony orchestra conductor. This intimate ensemble is intended for violin, viola, cello, and upright bass players who have, are developing, or once had orchestral music abilities and want to start playing again.

Research confirms the health benefits of learning and playing a musical instrument. Playing instrumental music strengthens appreciation for the fine arts and promotes the growth of neural pathways that strengthen cognitive abilities, more so than any other activity! You’ll also enjoy a fun social environment.

Participants provide their own instrument, music stand, and a 1” three ring notebook. Regular weekly attendance is highly recommended. The music you’ll prepare will be selections the members wish to learn and perform. These arrangements will either be purchased from publishing companies or orchestrated/arranged by David. Once a small chamber group is established, plans can be made to perform in low pressure public venues based on the consensus of the group.

Come join the fun! Your instrument wishes to be reacquainted with you and the Mindful Orchestra Project anticipates your musical presence.

David Sawtelle is a professional musician and music   teacher with a masters degree in music from Texas   State University. He is is also the former conductor of   the Alpena Symphony Orchestra in Michigan.
