GATHERING TO READ - THIRTY VERSES OF VASABANDU  is a special 5-day Buddhist seminar series led by guest presenter, Professor Koitsu Yokoyama, professor emeritus of Rikkyo University. Please consider this rare opportunity to gather for an intensive seminar experience on "consciousness only" thought in the Mahayana tradition, with the guidance of one of the foremost scholars on this topic.

All lectures will be presented in Japanese.


1) Registrants must be fluent in Japanese.

2) Participants should have an interest in  "consciousness only " Buddhist thought.

Some background in Buddhism is preferred and helpful.

About the Presenter:

Prof. Koitsu Yokoyama was born in Fukuoka in 1940.  During his university years, he researched fish blood at the Science of Fisheries of Tokyo University.  Later on, Prof. Yokoyama finished doctoral studies in Indian Philosophy at the graduate school of Tokyo University.  He has devoted his career to the study of Representation Only or Consciousness Only (vij˝aptimtra) Buddhist philosophy during the second period in the development of Mahyna Buddhism.

He is currently an Honorary Professor at Rikkyo University and a distinguished professor at Shogen Junior College.  He has published many works in Japanese on Consciousness Only philosophy, including A Consciousness Only Dictionary of Buddhism, which was published to commemorate the 1300th anniversary of the Kofukuji Temple in Nara, Japan. 

 One of his hobbies is martial arts and he is a master of Kashima Shin-ryu.
