2.75 CEU credits are available for nurses, LCSW, LCPC, LMFT, Clinical Psychologists,
and other mental health professionals.

The course will walk attendees through the involuntary admission process from the preparing of the petition to the filing of the petition to the court hearing on the petition and provide guidance on avoiding the pitfalls in the legal process.
A “training copy” of a petition will be examined line by line and each attendee will have a mock-up petition with notes to take home. We will also discuss other documents and circumstances that might apply in an effort to decrease anxiety regarding what to expect from a psychiatric admission.
Course Objectives
- Gain understanding of the step by step legal process involved in involuntary psychiatric admissions.
- Gain understanding of the preparation and the hearing process for involuntary admissions and learning what to expect in an involuntary admission hearing.
- Gain familiarity with the Illinois State Documents that pertain to psychiatric admissions including voluntary, petition, certificate and documents pertaining to the admission of a minor.
- Increase confidence to use these documents appropriately.
- Gain ability to clearly explain what circumstances qualify a person for psychiatric admission.
- Understand commonality and differences of Guardianship and Power of Attorney and what the limitations are of each.
- Gain understanding of rights and protections of minors who meet criteria for inpatient psychiatric admission.
Featured Speakers:
Sarah Dzurik is a McHenry County Assistant State’s Attorney. She is assigned to the civil division and her responsibilities include representing the various McHenry County governmental departments in a broad range of civil legal matters. Her current job duties focus on civil mental health matters, criminal child support cases, providing guidance on Freedom of Information Act requests, providing legal counsel to the McHenry County Board, and writing contracts and legal opinions for county departments. She has been with the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office for two years.
Sarah received her Juris Doctorate from Duke University School of Law in 2015. She received her Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Notre Dame in 2012.
Demetri Tsilimigras is a McHenry County Assistant State’s Attorney. He is currently assigned to the civil division and his responsibilities include representing the various McHenry County governmental department in a broad range of civil litigation matters. Prior to being assigned to the civil division, Demetri was a member of the management team in the criminal division. As Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division, he supervised the DUI/Traffic and General Misdemeanor Divisions. He also oversaw all specialty courts including the Mental Health Court, Drug Court and the Domestic Violence Court. He was the Deputy Chief for 10 years. Prior to McHenry County, Demetri was a Felony Trial Attorney at the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office for approximately 6 years. He was involved in the narcotics unit, DUI unit, domestic violence unit, juvenile unit, and the felony review unit. Prior to Kane County, Demetri worked at the Muskegon County Prosecutors Office for 2 ½ years where his primary areas of practice included civil litigation and misdemeanor prosecution. Prior to Muskegon County, Demetri worked as the Judicial Law Clerk for the family, civil and criminal division judges in Berrien County, Michigan. Demetri has worked his entire 20 years of legal practice as a public servant for the communities he has worked for.
Demetri received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Detroit-Mercy School of Law. He received his Masters in Business Administration from the University of Detroit-Mercy School of Business. He also received his Bachelor in Business Administration from Western Michigan University.
Voni Coombs has worked as a Centegra associate and Crisis worker since March 1998. Prior to that, she worked in private practice serving both children and adults with exposure to trauma. While working with the Crisis team, she received training and certification in suicide and trauma response and Critical Incident Stress Management. Voni was instrumental in establishing a Survivors of Suicide support group in McHenry County.
She received her BS from Brigham Young University and MS from National Louis. Voni is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor.
