The key to building strong relationships with our children is not a product of a punishment or consequence given in a moment in time -- but rather investing the time and effort to gain a greater knowledge and understanding of who our children are as people, as learners, and as physical, emotional and spiritual beings.
Parents will gain critical strategies and proven brain-based approaches to strengthen connections with our children. Parents will also share their experiences and gain support in a discussion group format. Tools will be provided and discussion topics will include - how to:
- Connect with your child to build strong positive relationships
- Redirect negative behavior
- Minimize power struggles
- Set limits and stick to them
- Create a surplus in your emotional bank account with your child
- Teach positive negotiation skills between siblings and friends
This class will appeal to parents of children with all types of learning styles including those who are gifted and 2e.
Melanie Prager, J.D., C.P.E., is Summit Center's Parent Educator and the Founder and Director of Enlightened Parenting. Melanie is the mother of three boys (teenage twins and an 11-year-old), two of whom are twice exceptional/2e. She has been trained and is certified in numerous parenting programs including Positive Discipline, Redirecting Children's Behavior, Supporting the Emotional Needs of the Gifted (SENG) and Reflective Parenting. Melanie says, “Gaining greater under-standing and knowledge about who our children are ignites the sparks of our childrens’ potential and creates long lasting and loving relationships for life.” Previously, Melanie was a Deputy District Attorney in Los Angeles County and the Co-Director of Empowered Parenting.
