Webinar: Research development: A non-traditional career option for postdocs/grad students

*Webinar is geared toward graduate students who will become postdocs

How does one coach and refer postdocs toward career paths we do not know or understand? We may have heard certain key phrases at a conference or read about a profession in one of our multiple association publications to which we subscribe, but at the end of the day, how do we justify our description of each potential career and the pros/cons of it, when our direction could very well be what spurs and helps determine someone else’s entire career? Well, to help us gain a wider frame of reference for just these types of situations, here is your opportunity to learn about another potential career profession.

Established in 2010 to help build a community around professionals dedicated to enhancing the research enterprise at institutions, the National Organization of Research Development Professionals (NORDP) now represents more than 800 members across the United States and from multiple countries around the world. Addressing and supporting strategic efforts around securing research funding, nurturing professional development, catalyzing new collaborations and partnerships, and enhancing institutional research competitiveness, NORDP is dedicated to developing and sharing best practices across disciplines and administrative boundaries to foster multi- and interdisciplinary research excellence. Following up on the feature about this organization from the October 2017 issue of The POSTDOCket, this webinar will feature presentations from Karen Eck, Ph.D., Old Dominion University, Kari Whittenberger-Keith, Ph.D., University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and Samarpita Sengupta, Ph.D., University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, on research development as a non-traditional career path, and ways in which NORDP can help postdoctoral administrators provide additional resources and direction about the research development career path within and outside of academia.
