Help Volunteer for the 2018 E-Week School Blitz.

 What is the ASCE-Nebraska Section E-Week School Blitz Outreach Event?

This event was started in 2015 by John Smith to get students interested in engineering. John was able to get about 20 volunteers to talk to approximately 25 different classrooms and over 500 students about what Civil Engineers do. We have continued this event since and on our 4^th year. The ASCE-Nebraska Section reaches out to Omaha metro schools to see if principals/teachers would like to have an ASCE-Nebraska Section Volunteer come to their school/classroom and talk about the Who/What/Where/Why we are Civil Engineers. Our target age group is K-12.

What will I expect to do if I volunteer?

Each volunteer would be paired with a classroom for a 1 hour long “Outreach Event”. This would consist of approximately 5-10 minutes of talking to the students about Civil Engineering and what they do as Civil Engineers. The remainder of the event would be a hands-on activity.

What day and time will I volunteer?

We do not have those days nor times figured out. We would leave that up to the individual volunteer and the school. Typically, the schools give a range of times that they are available, and we go from there.

What if the times or days do not match up with my schedule?

Sometimes the volunteer/school schedules do not work out and we just find another classroom if you want to still volunteer

What if I live hours away from Omaha, such as Central or Western Nebraska?

The ASCE-Nebraska Section is very passionate about the K-12 outreach event and would love to assist any professionals outside of the Omaha Metro area to talk to their local school or community school. Please contact Tyler Klusaw for more information.

Do I pay for the supplies?

The ASCE-Nebraska Section will cover supply costs that are reasonable.
