FUN Integrative Approaches to Trauma-informed Art Interventions in Play Therapy - Intermediate

Description:

In this highly experiential workshop, participants will learn neurodevelopmental approaches to trauma treatment integrated into the clinical art-making process. Day 1 will focus on a brief overview of these therapeutic models ( Perry, Siegel, van der Kolk) ; ethical guidelines to using creative interventions in play therapy, developmental stages of art through case presentations, art experientials and didactic means will be included. Art-making directives will follow the stages of art development. The presenter, a trauma-focused licensed board-certified art psychotherapist, trained in IFS and EMDR and will include several art directives informed by these models such as bilateral drawing and a "parts" drawing directive. Participants will gain understanding of how these playful and creative interventions promote organization of chaotic trauma experiences by offering structured meaning, containment, attunement, affect regulation, and reparative experiences utilizing bottom-up approaches in play therapy. Day 2 will be applying new knowledge in a day of art-making using a variety of materials including paper bag book-making, joint art-making, create a clay dollhouse family and even cardboard dollhouses made by participants and the children enrolled in camp!
