Business Data Security: Concrete Steps to Ensure Business Continuity in a Digital World

Serious business interruption becomes a growing  threat as attacks on data, computers, programs, and networks become ever more sophisticated and common.  Tom Dillig, a computer scientist, will explain how putting data on connected computers creates potential business risks and enumerate the fundamental ways in which systems and data can be compromised. He will present the principles and concrete steps that every business can apply to mitigate different types of risks, as well as their relative effectiveness and costs. Cyber security is part of overall risk management. Effective risk mitigation inherently involves people, processes, and technology together. Using real-world examples, he will discuss both the seriousness of cyber threats to businesses as well as examples of effective cyber security methods.  He will explore cyber security concepts and trade-offs in an interactive way using his firm's innovative BIG Cyber Security Game that audience members can access during the talk using their own mobile device (smartphone, tablet, laptop).

Speaker: Tom Dillig

Tom is a SCORE client and holds PhD/MS/BS degrees from Stanford University in Computer Science specializing  in Software Security. He has been on the faculty of Computer Science at UT Austin and other universities and has over 10 years of experience in academic research in software security.
