Simone works with all types and sizes of organization. She presents around the world, and teaches in the Philanthropy and Development Masters Program at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota.

Simone regularly serves on boards. She’s a past chair of Planned Parenthood of Southern New England. Currently she chairs the Advisory Board of the Hartsook Centre for Sustainable Philanthropy in the U.K.

Simone has contributed to multiple books and has written 3 of her own: Strategic Fund Development – Building Profitable Relationships That Last (now in its 3rd edition). Firing Lousy Board Members – And Helping the Others Succeed. And Keep Your Donors – The Guide to Better Communications and Stronger Relationships (co-written with Tom Ahern).

Tom and Simone are life partners. Mostly they work separately – but sometimes together. They’ve bequeathed their entire estate to charity.

The Donor's Journey - Not Yours! Creating Extraordinary Experiences

Do you sit in your office and plot the donor’s journey? Do your donors follow that journey? And what’s a donor journey, anyway?! Can’t they just send money without all this other stuff?

Of course, you and I know that there’s more to giving money than just giving money.

You know that loyalty and lifetime value drive business success – and that includes fundraising.  But how about your boss and board and your staff colleagues? Do they know the truth – and facts, too?

Together we’ll define destinations, draw maps, explore meaningful detours, figure out the best directions for bosses and boards and – even the finance and program staff!

11:30 - 12:15: Lunch

12:15-12:45: Quiz Show with Simone and Tom

12:45 -break

Storytelling for Fundraisers: It Ain't All Bourbon and Whittlin' in Your Rocker

Experts scream: "Tell stories! You'll raise more money!" Yes, but.... While stories ARE the vivid, evocative, empathy-arousing servants of fundraising, they are NOT all that matters. In this summary of what really matters in nonprofit storytelling, attendees will learn the HUGE and profitable difference between corporate (what most charities send) and donor communications (what few charities send, to their loss). You'll understand the neuro-scientific purpose behind before/after stories (fundraising's bread and butter). You'll discover the quick, essential art of delivering the so-called "Gift of Joy" within seconds to the donor.
