July 18 & 19: Self-Regulation for Children with Aggressive Behaviors in Play Therapy & Equine Experience Field Trip – Beginner

$298.00 Early Bird

$325.00 July 11 and later

Description:

A directive play therapy approach is used as a means to engage children with toys and activities since children 3-10 years or age typically do not have the cognitive ability to process inner conflict. Play is the child’s language and toys their words. With directive play therapy, therapists will gain a greater knowledge of how to work on goals related to anger management and self-control using hands-on play therapy techniques. Participants will be exposed to new games, songs, activities, and worksheets they can incorporate in sessions to facilitate insight and promote growth and change related to anger goals. Discussions will incorporate how to engage kids with resistance, denial, and opposition in addressing anger. Additionally, the training will demonstrate how to share the techniques in family sessions and coach parents with play therapy and concrete strategies to help get a more effective response from their child.  Participants will have the opportunity to learn, practice, and apply their new knowledge and play therapy skills during the training. Participants will visit a horse farm to observe equine activities in order to appreciate how Equine Therapy combined with play therapy can be useful to build self-confidence, self-efficacy, communication, trust, social skills, impulse control and learn boundaries.

July 20: Taking Play Therapy Outdoors: Archery, Tape Art, Yoga, Labyrinth Walk & More! – Intermediate

$150.00 Early Bird

$175.00 July 13 and later

Description:

If play is a child’s natural language where toys are the words, outdoors play seems to be the natural place for play to occur. With changes in our society due to technology and other factors, children are increasingly becoming resistant to outdoor play.

During our PLAY THERAPY BOOT CAMP series, participants will learn about the IPA, an international advocacy group which promotes play opportunities for children as a basis for outdoor play. At this exciting training, we have designed directive outdoor techniques to incorporate into your play therapy practice to help children heal in their natural play environment. Through the lens of play therapy, a number of interventions such as Equine Assisted Therapeutic Activities, Yoga, Archery, Labyrinth Walk, Tape Art, and outdoor sandtray will be incorporated in this innovative experience as well as movement and sensory oriented techniques. The purpose is to help children develop social skills, empathy, self-regulation, increase self-awareness through nature, and to have good old-fashioned fun and breath fresh air!
