In the quest to realize renewed vitality, it is meet and right for today's church to place increasing stress on its vocation as a "sent" people, engaged and active in the world.  Yet, counter to the instincts of many writers and practitioners today, doing so faithfully and effectively also requires heightened rather than lessened emphasis on our central act of gathering, our liturgical life.

In our short time together, we will consider some of the ways redeeming our rich and dynamic inheritance of story and symbol, rite and ritual, song-making and time-marking promises to fuel the flames of vitality.  In a context where the catechesis and "cultural liturgies" of society so often divert us from living in Christ, let's discover together how common worship can provide a kind of counter-formation, reshaping our imaginations and habits in the ways of God's Kingdom for the sake of the world.

With The Revd Dr Jay Koyle

Our Keynote Speaker, The Revd Dr Jay Koyle has a long and fruitful history of animating joyful and transformative worship in parish, diocesan, national and international contexts.  After many years' experience as both a parish pastor and a professor on a faculty of theology, Jay now serves as Congregational Development Officer for the Diocese of Algoma.  His doctoral thesis addressed the relationship between preaching and the missional revitalization of congregations in the 21st century.  Jay also serves as Chair of Faith, Worship and Ministry for the Anglican Church of Canada, and as a Director of Table Song:Eighth Day Perspectives.  He holds a doctoral degree in Homiletics and completed graduate work in Liturgical Studies at the University of Notre Dame.  He is past president of The Associated Parishes for Liturgy and Mission.  He has been a contributor to a number of journals and a recent book on discipleship formation published by Augsburg Fortress.  In both Canada and the United States Jay has been acclaimed as an inspirational speaker and leader who brings a terrific sense of humour and an uplifting Christian message.

Tuesday Afternoon Programmes

Special Chaplaincy Presentation:  Are you a deacon or priest "Chaplain" in the diocese?  Is your main ministry serving people and/or institutions outside of parishes?  Hospitals? Prisons? Care homes? Businesses?  Please join us for the inaugural Chaplains' Corral, facilitated this year by Clare Morgan .  We'll gather to explore common ground and this year's lessons learned, and to uncover a possible network of chaplains already at work.  This special session takes place on the Tuesday afternoon of the Clergy Conference.  Pre-registration for this special presentation is required when you register for the conference using the "Register Now" button below.

Visit to the Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre: The Squamish and Lil'wat Nations have built a Cultural Centre in Whistler that houses and showcases their art, history and culture, and for sharing their cultural heritage and inspiring understanding and respect among all people (https://slcc.ca/).  For those clergy not participating in the special chaplaincy workshop, and for spouses, a group tour to the centre has been organized.  The tour starts at 2:00 pm on Tuesday afternoon and includes a welcome song, movie, guided museum and exhibit tour, the contemporary gallery, and a keepsake cedar rope craft.  The cost is $15.30 per person if more than ten folks register.  The Centre is a 20 minute walk or four minute drive from the hotel.  Pre-registration for this special visit is required when you register for the conference using the "Register Now" button below.
