River Buddies Weekend Explorers - Bird Buddies

Join us on a fun, exciting adventure! River Buddies Weekend Explorers takes your child on a journey like no other. As they adopt their new role of explorer, your child will go on a nature walk along the Hidden Homes Trail, sing fun and exciting songs, listen to a story about that day’s program theme, and participate in both a craft and hands on activity that are educational and fun! Your child will learn all about the local environment and animals that reside with us here at the River Center.
This adventure requires your child to be between the ages of 3 ½ to 6. Please note that there is a $7.00 fee per child. You can pay in person the day of the trip by cash (exact change) or check. We will be meeting at the Picnic Area at the River Center (11605 Old Friant Rd, Fresno.) The program commences at 9:00 am, so be sure to arrive in time to check in and make your payment if you have not already done so. Please be sure to dress your child in clothing suitable for a morning outside, such as long pants, closed-toe shoes, etc.  We invite you to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy on site after the program is completed.

The Bird Buddies program theme includes:

  • Hidden Homes Nature Trail Hike: practice observing and identifying real birds on the pond at the center of the trail and visit larger than life bird habitats.
  • Bird Mask Craft: participants make their own bird mask to take home.
  • Bird Beak Buffet: learn about bird beak adaptations by mimicking feeding habits of different bird species.
  • Story Time: visit the 'bird room' in the historic 1880s Ranch House to listen to a story and interact with real bird nests.
