5. Explore Tele-Health Technology
6. Apply lessons from your professional mentor network 

 

Course Objectives - A Shot to Prevent Cancer:

After this session, participants should be able to:
1. Describe the connection between HPV and cancer
2. Recall current HPV vaccine recommendations
3. Describe the dental professional's role in preventing HPV-attributable cancers
4. Utilize and test an HPV/dental toolkit in practice

Susanne Kuehl, RDH, BS, CPHDH, IPDH

Susanne has over 35 years of clinical experience having worked with over twenty dentists in the seacoast area. As owner of Hygiene Health™ and Director of Hygiene Operations she brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to her patients. Her hybrid career includes ten years with Tom’s of Maine in Professional Relations and as Oral Care Associate Brand Manager re-launching their Children’s Fluoride Rinse with the ADA Seal (a point of pride).  She has worked as a consultant with Oral-B and as an Independent Professional Educator with Philips Sonicare and WaterPik. She has been president of the NH Dental Hygienists’ Association twice and is currently their Governmental Affairs Chair. Chosen by her peers as the 2014 RDH Mentor of the Year, she is a recognized professional in the oral healthcare industry holding dental hygiene licenses in NH, Maine and Massachusetts. In June 2017, she successfully advocated to change the state dental law allowing part-time working moms (like herself) to apply for independent practice status. #NeverthelessShePersisted.

 

Jenna Schiffelbein, MPH, CHES

Jenna Schiffelbein is the Director of Community Education and Prevention at the Norris Cotton Cancer Center. In this role, she oversees initiatives to reduce the burden of cancer in New Hampshire and Vermont. She also co-leads Live HPV Cancer Free, a working group devoted to increasing HPV vaccination in New Hampshire. This group—which is comprised of healthcare providers, public health professionals, researchers, and others—is working to educate dental health professionals about their role in preventing HPV cancers.

Prior to joining the Norris Cotton Cancer Center, Jenna’s work addressed chronic diseases and health behaviors in a variety of approaches, including hospital-based community health, worksite wellness, and school wellness. Jenna earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics from the University of Northern Colorado and her Master of Public Health degree from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

 

Justin Pentenrieder, MSSc

Justin is the State Health Systems Senior Manager at the American Cancer Society, Northeast Region.  He and his team partner with health systems to implement evidence-based interventions to increase cancer screening, HPV vaccination, and reduce the burden of cancer in the six New England states.  Prior to his current position with the Society, he served as Grassroots Advocacy Coordinator in Vermont and Director of Federal Grassroots Advocacy for New England.  Justin is an active member and co-leader of Live HPV Cancer Free.

Before joining the Society, Justin organized congressional hearings for US Senator Patrick Leahy and the Senate Judiciary Committee in Washington, DC.  Justin holds a Master of Social Science degree from the University of Cape Town, South Africa.
