Film Screening with Visiting Fulbright Scholar Galina Evtushenko Thursday, March 8 at 6:00 p.m.

The University Club of Albany Foundation is pleased to announce a screening of Leo Tolstoy and Mahatma Gandhi: A Double Portrait in the Interior of the Age with Galina Evtushenko, who produced and directed the film.  The screening will be held on Thursday, March 8, 2018, at 6:00 p.m. at the University Club at 141 Washington Avenue at Dove Street, and will follow a meet-the-Director reception with light fare at 5:30 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public, but reservations are required.

The film explores a correspondence between Leo Tolstoy and Mahatma Gandhi, who never met, but who corresponded during the last year of Tolstoy’s life.  The correspondence covered crucial philosophical, religious and political issues facing humanity in the 20th and 21st Centuries.  With scenes in in Yasnaya Polyana, London, Delhi, and Johannesburg, the film shows the two thinkers achingly trying to find their own means of resistance.

The film aims to show that although Russia and India don’t have a common land or sea border, the ways of life of Tolstoy and Gandhi prove that this border is in the spiritual sphere, and it doesn’t separate, but brings two great nations together.
