Trauma Conscious Classroom Management

In this workshop, participants will take their developing knowledge of trauma’s impacts and apply it to their classroom management approaches. The workshop will include looking at our own assumptions and underlying philosophies about behavior and motivation, and layering on our knowledge of the trauma-affected brain. Workshop will be very hands-on and involve case studies, role-plays and Q&A.

Format: Face-to-face, 4 hours.

About the instructor:

Alex Shevrin is a teacher educator through   Antioch University New England and Castleton   Center for Schools, and an instructor at the   Community College of Vermont. She is a former   school leader at an alternative therapeutic   school, where she supported youth affected by trauma, poverty, and other adverse life experiences. She believes that all students need a safe and caring school environment and that we create this environment through  unconditional positive regard for the person and conditional response to the  behaviors, recognizing the dynamic and complex lives of our students.

This event fulfills competencies 2, 3, and 4 of the Trauma-Conscious Teaching Microcredential
