 'Canyon Country'

Workshop for Teachers 

Gain experience using local outdoor resources and scenic sites for teaching as we explore the spectacular canyon country of the Uncompahgre Plateau!

We will visit Escalante Canyon sites and learn from natural resource professionals throughout the day, including a tour of the CPW Native Seed Warehouse to find out about the role it plays in wildlife habitat conservation far into the future. As a group we will be applying desert habitat and wildlife-focused lesson plans from 'Project WILD' and 'TEN'.

Delta OUT

  • This workshop is part of the ‘Delta Outdoor Understanding for Teachers’ professional development program.  Delta and Olathe area teachers attending this workshop, plus two other 1-day OUT workshops are eligible for CPW-site field trip transportation matching grants and equipment loans.  To learn more about the Delta OUT program, contact Catherine Brons or Anita Evans.

Registration Fee

  • The fee for this workshop is $10. Please make checks out to 'Colorado Parks and Wildlife Education'.

  • A 0.5 continuing education credit from Colorado School of Mines is available for an additional fee of $40.  Participants can register and pay for credit (by check only) at the workshop.
  • A ‘Delta OUT Canyon Country’ Certificate of Completion will be provided to all participants.

What to Expect & Bring:

  • We will begin this workshop at ‘Bill Heddles Recreation Center: Room B' in Delta at 8:30 a.m. and carpool over to Escalante Canyon sites a bit later.
  • Be prepared for varying levels of activity in the outdoors.  We will be going on a hike and walking in rocky areas.  Be sure to dress appropriately for the weather and wear sturdy shoes.
  • You'll want to bring a sack lunch, small backpack, full waterbottle, sunglasses, and sunscreen.
