Ukrainian Egg Decorating

 Class description:

Participants will begin with a chicken egg, some beeswax, a kitsky and dyes.  Using these modern versions of traditional tools, you will layer color upon color, sealing in each with the beeswax.  Designs will be provided, but you are also welcome to make it up as you go!  The very last steps will be to remove the wax, revealing the deep beautifully decorated egg, to empty it (I have tools to make this step easy) and then to spray it so it shines!

Max class size: 20

Fee: $30 per person

About the artist:

Mary Beth Steven is a fifth grade teacher at Cambridge Elementary School. She first became interested in Ukrainian Egg decorating while looking for something to do with her children. Those very first eggs became Christmas gifts, and she and her daughter became particularly fond of this art form. Shortly after, Mary Beth began offering Ukrainian Egg decorating as a summer school option and has continued to do so for the past 18 years! This is a popular summer school class, and students often return for two or three summers.
