Formative Speech Workshop with Ashley Smit

In an effort to bring consciousness, beauty, and movement into our speaking, we will work with speech exercises  and the Waldorf School morning verses given by Rudolf Steiner, as well as poems and games. Rudolf and Marie Steiner's work offers us an entrance into the art of speech through the sounds themselves, allowing us to experience their inherent life as we explore and play with them. Rudolf Steiner also called our attention to the Greek gymnastics as preparatory exercises for the speaker and actor.  We will spend a portion of our day exploring these exercises. Please bring shoes that are good for running.

Ashley Smit was born 1986 in Washington, D.C. It was through Waldorf education that Ashley's love for art was allowed to flourish. Ashley studied eurythmy at the American Eurythmy School, graduating in 2010. In learning to love eurythmy, her heart had also been opened to the realm of artistic speech, which she then studied in Dornach, Switzerland, graduating in 2016. She now teaches formative speech at the American Eurythmy School and performs with the American Eurythmy Theater.
