3               … discuss different treatment options

PRESENTER:

Michael Goldman is an  Employee Assistance Program (EAP) counselor for Cook County EAP.  I started there in 1989.  As an EAP counselor, I am responsible for conducting assessments, referring for services, providing direct therapeutic services, and the development and delivery of training.

Prior to that, I worked as a trainer and addictions specialist for TASC, which is a not-for-profit agency that attempts to divert non-violent, chemically dependent criminal offenders out of the penal system and into treatment.  I worked with both adults and adolescents.

In addition to my work for Cook County EAP, I also have a private therapy and training practice.  My specialties is in GBLTQ issues, anxiety disorders, and in addictions, chemical dependency and process, i.e. gambling, sex.  I have been trained in and am a strong proponent of mindfulness based stress reduction.

Outside of work, I have been married for 24 years and have two beautiful teenagers. I am a firm believer that compulsive gambling is a major problem in our country and one that is greatly misunderstood by the general public.  As long as casinos prosper, there must be adequate resources for those who cannot gamble responsibly.
