COURSE DESCRIPTION:
An emergency situation in the dental office, may be a frightening and challenging event for all involved.
Training and preparation are essential to address any situation, emergent or not. There are two kinds of Dental Professionals, those who have experienced a situation that will require intervention and those who will. Successful management of a medical emergency involves preparation, training and working both as an individual and as a team.in a coordinated response efficiently and appropriately to address the patient’s needs
This presentation will review the common medical problems that can present in the dental office and will develop specific protocols to respond and resolve the emergency.
Learning Objectives:
1. Identify the most common types of emergencies that present in the dental office.
2. Understand and recognize how the dental team works together.
3.Develop a protocol to address the needs of a patient or staff member in distress
4. Recognize the indications, contraindications and side effects of medications in your emergency kit
5. Develop an emergency preparedness checklist as a pre-plan for potential medical emergencies
The target audience for this lecture is dental staff, hygienists, and dentists.

Bill’s career in EMS began as a Lifeguard/Water Safety Instructor over 50 years ago. He has been involved in all aspects of Public Safety, as an EMT/Paramedic, Fire Chief and Police Officer. He retired as the Ski Patrol Director at Cannon Mt. Ski Area in 2014. Bill served the insurance industry for over 30 years as an investigator and litigation manager. He is a licensed FAA commercial pilot. He brings to every session a professional overview that is seen through first-hand experience with an understanding of safety services from all points of view.
