Virtual Reality: An overview of the technology and its applications : Webinar (05/17/18)

Virtual Reality allows you to stand on a summit in the Rocky Mountains; to experience a refugee camp in Afghanistan; to travel as a white blood cell through the human circulatory system; to be in the center of a Cirque du' Soleil production. Though it has existed for quite some time, VR has only recently moved into the mainstream bringing with it explosive growth and development in a variety of industries. Join Kimberley R. Barker, MLIS (University of Virginia) for an exploration of this exciting technology, and learn about: how VR works; the leading industry players, including Oculus, Google, Samsung, and HTC; safety issues; potential neurological effects; and examples of its use in healthcare, education, historic preservation, entertainment, and everyday life. 

Virtual Trainer: Kimberley R. Barker, University of Virginia

Kimberley R. Barker holds an MLIS from the University of South Carolina, and is the Librarian for Digital Life at the University of Virginia's Claude Moore Health Sciences Library. She is also the creator of the MOOC, "Introduction to Personal Branding", and a consultant on issues of reputation management and online identity. She believes that technology empowers people, allowing them to make better decisions and enrich their personal and professional lives. Kimberley also believes that, with the proper support and resources, anyone can learn anything- and that everybody deserves the chance to do so. She is also a Hobbit, an introvert, and would fight you for the last cup of tea (Irish Breakfast, hot).
