Respiratory Protection Program Training and Respirator Fit Testing
Respiratory Protection Program Training (12pm - 1pm)
Employers who put their employees in a respirator (includes N-95 disposable masks) must have a written Respiratory Protection Program and documented training. During this 1-hour class a GFA International Instructor will provide information and guidance on the OSHA Respiratory Protection Program requirements for remediation and general contractors. Topics will include relevant OSHA requirements and how to comply. A light lunch will be provided.
Respirator Fit Testing (offered after the Protection Program Training Class at 1pm)
The OSHA respiratory protection standard requires that fit testing be performed before an employee first starts wearing a respirator in the work environment, whenever a different respirator facepiece is used, and at least annually thereafter. OSHA also requires that employees be medically cleared and fit tested before wearing a respirator. Medical clearance must be obtained prior to fit testing. Beards, mustaches, or even stubble interfere with the seal of a tight-fitting respirator. OSHA requires that employees be clean-shaven the day of the fit test and prohibits any facial hair in areas where the respirator comes into contact with the face. Every participant who successfully completes the fit test is provided with a certificate.
Preparation for your test:
• Please bring your respirator for fit testing.
• Come to the appointment “Clean Shaven” (No facial hair where the mask meets the face.)
• Avoid wearing excessive makeup.
• Please bring proof of passing medical clearance.
