Preventing Strokes

Stroke is the 5th leading cause of death in the United States and the leading cause of long-term adult disability.

There are nearly 7 million stroke survivors living in the U.S., a number destined to grow as our population ages.

According to the American Stroke Association, up to 80% of all strokes can be prevented through lifestyle risk factor management.

Lauren Schwabish, Rehabilitation Clinical Specialist,  will describe:
  • Types of Stroke
  • Risk Factors for Stroke
  • Signs of Stroke
  • What to do in case of Stroke
  • Updates in medical management of Stroke
  • What Stroke Recovery looks like
  • Resources for primary prevention of Stroke
Lauren  has 18 years of experience working in hospitals and rehabilitation centers, evaluating and treating patients. She is currently in the Inpatient Neurorehabilitation Program at INOVA Mount Vernon Hospital in Virginia, where she mentors newer clinicians and champions program development related to patient/family education.
