Earth Day Cleanup by Bike

Bike ride the "Arlington Loop" with ACE on Earth Day. Bring your energy, your bike and your backpack/panniers and join us! The theme of Earth Day 2018 is "end plastic pollution"--join ACE to remove litter from Arlington's bike trails, helping to keep litter, especially harmful plastics, out of our natural places and streams.

This free event is suitable for intermediate and advanced riders of all ages. For younger volunteers and new bikers, we recommend you pick up trash around the picnic shelter in Bon Air. We'll provide cleanup supplies and break into smaller groups to tackle sections of the 17-mile Arlington Loop. We'll meet at the Bon Air Park Picnic Shelter. Note: the shelter is just beyond the stop sign at the I-66 underpass/Custis Trail at milepost 0.0 or is a 2-minute bike ride from the Bon Air Park parking lot located at 850 N. Lexington Street, Arlington. Light refreshments available.

Please register online by noon on Friday, April 20. After that, please register onsite at the event.

Before the ride:

On the ride:

VERY IMPORTANT: Remember to completely remove yourself, your bicycle and your trash bags from the trail anytime you stop. Do not block the trail for other riders and beware of spots along the trail with limited visual access where you may cause problems.
Focus on trash within easy access of the trails.
Pick up and separate trash from recyclables. We’ll provide different bags for each.
Bring the trash & recycling bags back to the start/stop point. OR leave tied up bags at the nearest trash/recycling bin.
Wear a helmet & gloves.
Bring a re-usable water bottle. Stay hydrated.
Follow proper rider etiquette: signal when passing/turning/slowing/stopping.
Do NOT to go into streams.
Do NOT pick up glass/sharp objects.
