The Future of Development in San Diego -- Opportunities and Obstacles:
San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) regional growth predictions anticipate the need for over 500,000 more housing units in San Diego by 2050. That includes 150,000 to 220,000 units in the next 10 years. Community planners, local neighborhoods and communities, and especially the development industry are wrestling with how to address this impending demand for housing in our region. Our panel will include planning and development experts who will share their predictions for how this demand may be met and the future of development in San Diego.

Moderated by Glen Schmidt, FASLA of the Schmidt Design Group, the panel will include Nancy Graham AICP, Senior Planner for the City of San Diego leading the Community Plan Update for the Community of Mission Valley; Bill Ostrem, Division President of Lennar (CalAtlantic), one of Americas largest home builders; Andrew Malick, Director of Malick Infill Development, a San Diego-based development firm focused on modestly scaled urban infill projects; and David Allen, Principal of Trestle Development, a San Diego-based real estate company focused on developing properties the allow people to live affordably in the best neighborhoods.

Panelists:
  •   Glen Schmidt, FASLA, Panel Moderator – Schmidt Design Group, Inc
  •   Andrew Malick, Director – Malick Infill Development
  •   Nancy Graham, AICP, Senior Planner – Mission Valley Community Plan
