Fancy Lassies

with Kate Thompson

Sunday, June 10th

11:00 am to 6:00 pm (includes 1hr lunch break)

Cost: $90

In this class we will be creating fanciful girls using watercolors, pastels and acrylics. These girls are created in a somewhat whimsical way but with some understanding of a more realistic approach. There will be exercises in creating a more realistic portrait which we will then use and abstract to something more fanciful.

We will work on backgrounds using my scribble technique, drips of watercolor, charcoal and gesso that will be torn and applied in a collage format for more finished pieces that incorporates the figures. Some of the backgrounds may end up as abstract pieces that stand on their own.

Color blocking with prints and color is another approach to our backgrounds where we will work back and forth with the figure. The background will have a collage feel but we will be using color, repetitive images and patterns all painted as the figure emerges through.
