Guidance for the Measurement of Dynamic Pressure with a Focus on Air Blast

A Complimentary Seminar from PCB Piezotronics

May 2, 2018 in Huntsville, AL

This complimentary seminar focuses on the measurement of the pressures encountered in air blast environments. The topics offree field and reflected pressures are both encompassed. Specific challenges with measurements in enclosedenvironments are noted. For completeness, the separate topics of ballistic and underwater explosionmeasurements, along with acoustics, will be covered. Pressure transducers most applicable to the specificmeasurements are identified. Those microphones most capable of supporting MIL-STD-1474 are also delineated.

Sequentially, after clarifying pressure types, fundamental measurement system requirements for attemptingdynamic pressure measurements are given. Attention is provided to pressure transducer design and construction, transducer mounting, cables and cable influences, transducer signal conditioning, digital data sampling andresolution, understanding and minimizing noise sources, and data reduction.  To the maximum extent possible, actual test setups and their resultant data are used in the presentation.

About the presenter:

Dr. Patrick Walter was employed for 30 years at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, NM with most ofthis tenure spent managing flight, field, and laboratory test activities. In 1995, Dr. Walter joined the EngineeringDepartment of Texas Christian University where he taught analytical and experimental mechanics courses, advanced vibrations, managed the Capstone design program, and formerly served as Chair. Dr. Walter consultsextensively in instrumentation system design within the Aerospace and Defense community and teachesinstrumentation system design courses through TCU’s Extended Education Department. In 2008 he received theShock and Vibration Information Analysis Center’s (SAVIAC – a DoD Center originated by the Navy in 1946) Lifetime Achievement Award. He has consulted on a continuous basis for PCB Piezotronics, Inc. since 2003.

The training is complimentary, no charge for attendees.   A pizza lunch and beverage is also included.  Please note that proof of citizenship may be required.  Please carry proof of citizenship with you to the training.
